Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City will have to tighten up their set-piece defending if they want to advance to the MTN8 semifinals this weekend.
The Citizens go to Maritzburg United on Sunday for a 3pm kickoff, hoping to get back to winning ways after they conceded from a corner and a free-kick in a 2-1 PSL defeat at Baroka on Wednesday night.
City were hoping to break a three-match winless streak against Baroka.
And when they face the Team of Choice, who City have also not beaten in three previous meetings – Maritzburg thumped City 4-2 at Cape Town Stadium in the league last season, before shutting them out 1-0 at home – they face a similar task.
Benni, though, can take some confidence from his side’s record fighting spirit in Limpopo in midweek.
Fadlu Davids’ side have also not been at their best this season, losing their first two games of the season – 2-1 to Golden Arrows at the weekend and by the same scoreline to Free State Stars on Wednesday.
