Cape Town City boss Benni McCarthy will get the chance to see his team’s readiness for the PSL season this weekend when they take on Kaizer Chiefs.
McCarthy has been strengthening his squad after the departure of skipper and centreback Robyn Johannes and experienced winger Lyle Lakay, as they look to improve on their fifth-place league finish last season.
In come attackers Riyaad Norodien and Siphelele Mthembu and youngsters Gift Links and Karabo Ngwenya, while Kouassi Kouadja and Keanu Cupido bolster the backline options at Hartleyvale.
Ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kickoff against the Glamour Boys, goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh joined from Ajax Amsterdam.
And new captain Thami Mkhize believes that the new players have settled into life at the Blue Army and adapted to Benni’s philosophy.
The rightback tells IOL: “The new players have fitted in well with us.
They have really made a big effort to adapt to the team and to adjust to life in Cape Town.
"As a team, we’ve really worked hard since we’ve started pre-season.
The coach and his technical team must be commended for the work they’ve done with us. The guys have all come to the party to ensure we will be ready by the time the first PSL game comes.”
“This will be more like a league match because of the opposition we face and because of the magnitude of it. But this Chiefs match is the ideal preparation for our first league match against SuperSport.”
