Cape Town City want to send a warning to their PSL rivals with a winning start to the season against SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium ton Saturday (6pm).
Coach Benni McCarthy, uitgehonger for league action, believes his manne have what it takes to challenge for the league title this term.
But he knows they have to get off to a fast start at Cape Town Stadium, well aware that maximum points at home is key to a successful campaign.
And Benni says: “I’m excited for the league, but more so for Saturday.
“We want to get the monkey off our back, first one.
“It’s a home tie and Saturday can’t come any quicker.”
Ahead of the test against a tough-tackling and experienced SuperSport side, Benni warns his team to show the most hunger.
The Bafana Bafana legend will virtually have a full-strength squad to choose his match-day 18 from.
And he says: “They have Morgan Gould at the back – a real leader – with Clayton Daniels, they have Yeye [Reneilwe Letsholonyane], Dean Furman. So they know their way around the league.
“But it’s gonna 90 minutes, 11 v 11 and the team that wants it the most that wins.
“And certainly it’s gonna be us. We’ve got home advantage, so we have to make it count.”
