Springbok scrum guru Matt Proudfoot has joined Eddie Jones’ England coaching team for the upcoming Six Nations tournament.
The former Stormers and Bok forwards mentor will take up the same position in Jones’ backroom staff after his contract at the South African Rugby Union came to an end at the conclusion of their successful World Cup campaign in Japan last year .
Jones says of Proudfoot’s appointment: “Matt Proudfoot has had an outstanding coaching career to date culminating in being a World Cup winning coach with South Africa.
“He brings great technical expertise and knowledge, having coached in South Africa and Japan and having played in Scotland and South Africa.
“We feel he can take the forwards to another level and build on the great work Steve [Borthwick] has done over the last four years.”
Proudfoot takes over from Steve Borthwick, who takes on the role of skills coach.
They are joined in Jones’ team by Simon Amor (attack coach) and John Mitchell continues as defence coach.
