PSL chairman Irvin Khoza confirmed yesterday that the league has still not made a decision on Kaizer Chiefs’ “postponed” fixtures.
Chiefs requested that their December league games be rescheduled due to a massive Covid-19 outbreak.
But despite turning down their request, two fixtures were not honoured - including one against Cape Town City.
Khoza revealed that the matter has been handed over to the legal department, which is set to be led by newly-appointed Prosecutor Zola Majavu, and he cannot give any further update at this point in time.
With the league setting the precedent that Covid would not be a reason to postpone matches, it’s expected that Chiefs will forfeit the three points.
But Khoza says: “Yes, it took too long because of the complexity of the matter.
“The PSL fixtures affect a lot of people and a lot of stakeholders.
“We need to make sure we accommodate the members and not just deal with the rules punitively.”
Khoza also addressed questions over the long-awaited return of fans and media to live matches, but says they are still monitoring the Covid pandemic situation and the cost of protecting attendees.
Meanwhile, the PSL announced the four squads for the upcoming viewers’ choice Compact Cup.
Fans can continue voting for their preferred first XIs ahead of the January 22 and 29 matchdays.
The Cape regional side will be coached by Steve Barker.
