Benni McCarthy has told his Cape Town City players to ruk themselves reg ahead of Monday evening’s PSL trip to Mamelodi Sundowns.
City had a nightmare in their 2-0 defeat to Polokwane as the MTN8 champions were dumped out of the tournament in the first round.
The Citizens were overrun by the visitors at Newlands and the scoreline could have been even worse.
And with their next assignment being against the PSL champions, coach McCarthy is really concerned.

He says: “We weren’t at our best and if you’re not at your best every team will punish you.
“It’s a reality check for us.
“It gives us a chance to go back to the drawing board and then we fly out to play the defending [league] champions, so it doesn’t get any easier. The result gives us a good indication of the work ahead of us.”
City’s defence was torn to shreds by Polokwane’s direct play as their midfield failed to give them cover.
They will have to tighten up at the back against Pitso Mosimane’s manne.
A victory for either side will lift them to level on six points with league leaders Wits, so City have every motivation against the South African heavyweights at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
