Referees are keelvol of being abused at club level and have threatened to pull their services ahead of this weekend’s club rugby action.
An age-old problem, referees have been victims of abuse from spectators and players alike for years now.
Maar dit is nou tot hier toe en nie verder nie, as the Referees Exco will meet with the Western Province Rugby Union tonight to find a resolution to the problem.
The Western Province Rugby Referees Society wrote on their Facebook page last week: “The bullying tactics and abuse of our match officials by the WP Club Rugby public will not be tolerated.
“If you want to make yourself guilty of this you better have the balls to back it up with a whistle because we have the right to withhold service to clubs (spectators, supporters involved in clubs) who make themselves guilty of this.”
If the action goes ahead, we’ve got some mouthwatering match-ups in Super League B to look forward to.
The biggest of them all is the Strand derby between St Georges and Helderberg in Macassar.
With both teams still in with a shot of making the top six, the match will effectively be a shootout for a chance of promotion.
Both teams will also keep tabs on the Franschhoek v Vineyards encounter, as that will also have an impact on the final log.
There is everything to play for on Saturday.
