Steenberg United’s general manager Simphiwe Clans says the experience from the PSL bubble brought back memories of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Clans, pictured bottom right, represented one of the main sponsors of the world showpiece and says a lot of what was being done in the bubble is similar.
He tells the Daily Voice: “It took me back to the Fifa 2010 days.
“You can’t do anything without accreditation and you are assigned certain zones.”
He admits that not everybody adapted favourably to the situation because it was a first experience for many of the club members.
Clans adds: “It was uncharted territory, so a lot of people and teams kept making mistakes, but after a while it started to work like clockwork.
“There were many discussions before we went into the bubble, there was a lot of paperwork shared with all the information and many changes.
“But there’ll always be those issues here and there, but it’s best to take them as lessons rather than just criticise.
“There are many lessons that have been learned that we can take forward. For instance, opponents should never stay in the same hotel. That just can never happen again.
“The pre-match meetings were done virtually, I think that works because it also means less paperwork and cuts time.
“The screening part should remain as well, we need to keep checking because we don’t know for how long Covid-19 will be around.”
Steenberg, who were promoted as back-to-back champions of the Safa Western Cape’s ABC Motsepe league, survived their first season in the GladAfrica Championship after finishing in ninth place.
