Reports that Samora Machel - where six members of the Anti-Gang Unit were shot at - has been placed on lockdown could not be confirmed with police on Thusrday.
The Daily Voice understands that one of the police officers, Constable Freddie Florence, is still in a critical condition.
Florence and his colleagues came under fire on Wednesday morning while responding to information about suspects linked to a crime spree in Samora Machel on 27 May, where five people were murdered and one injured in three separate incidents.
Six AGU members were hospitalised and cops launched a manhunt and on Wednesday afternoon, nabbing a 26-year-old suspect in Paarl.
Meanwhile, the AGU team has continued their work to rid the Cape of crime.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says later on Wednesday night, the AGU members descended on two premises in Happy Valley in Mfuleni and seized firearms and an assortment of ammunition, and made two arrests.
“In one house they arrested a 35-year-old Zimbabwean citizen and seized... one Norinco Star firearm (with no serial number), five cartridges, one 9mm Bietro Barrett’s, one magazine, eight cartridges, one R5 rifle, two rifle magazines, 27 X R5 rounds, 165 X 9mm rounds, one 7.65 rounds [and] two ammunition holders.”
At the second house, where a 64-year-old suspect was arrested, one R5 rifle, four rifle magazines, 43 x R5 rounds and two sets of handcuffs were confiscated.
Van Wyk says the duo will be charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
