Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy has nowhere to run anymore.
A trial date was set for the alleged drug kingpin and four others in the Khayelitsha Priority Crimes Court yesterday.
Murphy, 43, together with his sister Glenda Bird, 46, his ex-wife Shafieka Murphy, Dominique Davidson and his suspected henchman Leon Paulsen heard the State was ready to begin their trial proceedings.
The gang is facing six charges which include money laundering and dealing in drugs.
At their next appearance for pre-trial proceedings at the same courthouse, the group will be expected to plead to the charges.
Murphy left court surrounded by a group of supporters yesterday.
Murphy and Bird were released on R20 000 at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court days after their arrest in April.
Murphy was arrested at his home in Lentegeur, while his sister was bust in Wolseley following a drug bust at Davidson’s home in Lotus River last year September.
Cops believe Murphy is the mastermind behind this drug operation.
R1.1 million in cash and R5m worth of tik were found at the house, as well as a drug manufacturing equipment.
Earlier this year, charges were dropped against Zulayga Fortuin, 26, and Felicia Wenn, 21, who were arrested along with Shafieka during the raid.
Paulsen was arrested in 2014 on a charge of money laundering after police confiscated over R380 000 at Murphy’s home in Turksvy Street, Lentegeur.
Murphy claims he’s an innocent businessman and even obtained an interdict against police, claiming they were intimidating his family.
Murphy’s hermaphrodite status previously came under the spotlight when he revealed he owned both a male and female identity book.
