Judgment in the trial of self-confessed child killer Mortimer Saunders has now been set down for November.
The Western Cape High Court on Wednesday postponed the judgment to November 6.
It has been set down for three days, as the judge said she needed time.
Saunders was arrested in May last year after the body of three-year-old Courtney Pieters was found in Epping Industria, nine days after she was reported missing.
He confessed to giving the child poison and assaulting her because she annoyed him and because he wanted to get back at her mother, with whom he did not get along.
The State has urged the court to impose a harsh sentence and wants Saunders to be convicted of premeditated murder and rape.
Saunders denied raping the girl before she died but has admitted to necrophilia, after he inserted his fingers into her vagina after she passed away.
Judge Pearl Mantame said the two days she had set down for conviction and sentencing for the case was not enough to finish.
"I don't want to do the judgement and then have to postpone for two weeks before we do the sentencing, so we will postpone," she told the court.
Courtney’s family members and members from the Elsies River community were left fuming, saying “justice delayed was justice denied”.
Courtney's parents, Juanita Pieters and Aaron Fourie, were informed of this by the prosecutor on Tuesday, and were not present at court on Wednesday.
Her cousin Celeste Adonis said: "I am upset that we have to wait again. Ons kind moes rus kry. We are still grieving and cannot move forward unless he has paid for what he has done."
Community member Suretta Steenkamp vented her anger in front of the High Court as well. She along with a handful of concerned residents of Elsies River are always in court.
"We sacrifice every day to be here. We are here for Courtney, but not even her own parents make the sacrifice to be here. We want justice for that girl and no more delays," she said.
Courtney Pieters went missing from her Elsies River home on May, 4 last year and the family boarder at 23 Pluto Street, Saunders, admitted to killing the girl and committing a sexual act with her corpse.
Judgement and sentencing has been set down for 6, 7, 8 November.
