The DA leadership said it was going to court to challenge the removal of Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane, Trollip, and party spokesperson Solly Malatsi held a press conference on how the party intends to fight the ANC-EFF coalition which led to the removal of Trollip.Trollip was removed via a motion of no confidence and Mongameli Bobani of the UDM, was elected as the new mayor.
Trollip said: “They know that there’s an election coming, they were desperate to take over that city.
“The public purse is better than it has ever been before in Nelson Mandela Bay and they needed access to that purse. So we saw the ANC, the UDM [and] EFF collaborate with one DA councillor to oust this administration of ours, a coalition government that had fulfilled its promise of delivering to the people. They collaborated to get rid of us and we are going to challenge that.”
