Olympic gold medallist Wayde van Niekerk has hit back at Sascoc after being rapped over knuckles for his choice of clothing.
The 400m world record holder has been tweeting up a storm since he left Rio on Monday.
The athlete did not return home with the rest of the SA team, heading straight to Paris, France, to prepare for the Diamond League athletics meeting starting in Sweden today.
Wayde first responded to media reports that he was ingedoen by SA Olympic Committee CEO Tubby Reddy after he was pictured wearing an Adidas top when he met New Zealand rugby star Sonny Bill Williams before the Rio games.
Sonny posted the pic on Twitter and Wayde then retweeted it.
Tubby said on Monday that Wayde was not supposed to wear non-sponsor brands while representing Team SA in Rio.
He was reportedly also accused of taking the Olympic sponsors for a gat by not wearing their tracksuit.
Wayde did not take kindly to this and responded on Tuesday night: “whats this? 1stly Day 1 we only received kit the night. And 2ndly it’s Sonny bill who wouldn’t take a pic?”
But after all that seriousness, the 24-year-old had fun interacting with excited fans.
He had a lekker laugh, responding with jokes and punchlines to questions about his life.
Wayde is a big Liverpool fan and when @JarredGooner told him: “@WaydeDreamer you will break your record at the Next Olympics before #Liverpool win the league,” he responded: “Chances are pretty equal for the both of us”
So far fans have learnt: he does play soccer, he prefers being at home in Cape Town, he likes hip hop music, and being one of the fastest guys in the world, his favourite fast food snack is Pick n Pay steak pies.
And he really proved he has a quick wit when @lordoakmont tweeted: “@WaydeDreamer It’s my wedding anniversary and I’m sitting here waiting for you to answer one of my questions My wife says please respond.
” Wayde replied: “Put your phone away sies.”
