The Strandfontein dad who was shot dead in a hijacking was laid to rest at the weekend.
On Saturday, Grant Fredericks’ funeral was held at the Baptist Church in Strandfontein.
It was an emotional service as family, friends and residents came together to say their final goodbyes to the 39-year-old husband and father of two.
The family has declined to comment on his death and the court case for now as they deal with their loss.
On Friday, five men linked to Grant’s murder made their second appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court.
The five were nabbed after a foiled robbery at a jewellery store at Cavendish Square mall in Claremont just 12 hours after Grant was killed.
Police found Grant’s stolen red Volkswagen Polo at the mall, and also confiscated a firearm that was in the car.
Friday’s appearance was for bail information to be supplied, but the matter was postponed as only one of the suspects, accused number one Zingisile Kleinhans, had an attorney.
Three of the accused Siphokuhle Bulani, Xolani Nakumba and Ntongmeli Dyani still had no legal representation, while Themba Jilaje requested a legal aid attorney.
The gang has been charged with aggravated robbery, theft and possession of stolen property for now.
A murder charge may be added, pending outstanding ballistic reports on firearms.
The stolen property is Grant’s car. The dad had gone to a tuckshop close to his house when armed men approached him.
He had handed over his car keys to the robbers, but was shot in the back as he walked away from them.
The accused seemed jovial and waved happily at family members in the packed courtroom.
The case has been postponed to October 13 so the four can acquire their legal representation.
