Relatives of a mother and daughter, who were murdered and buried in their own backyard, say they will finally get justice as the alleged killer gets her day in court.
Suspect Levonna Jacobs, 35, attended pre-trial proceedings at the Cape High Court on Friday after her case was transferred from the Bellville Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutors are set to prove Jacobs murdered her aunt Virna Jacobs, 47, and Virna’s daughter Rowena Jacobs, two, and buried them in the backyard of their Sering Street home in Delft-South.
Suspicious relatives who noticed fresh cement covering huge holes in the yard, carried out their own investigation and dug up the bodies on December 8 last year.
The pair were missing for four months and family members did not believe Jacobs’ alleged stories that they had relocated to Namaqualand and Malmesbury.
A fight over an inherited house is believed to be the motive for the murder.
Jacobs is the niece of Virna’s husband, Donovan Jacobs, who was murdered by a tenant in March 2011, after an argument over a burger.
Jacobs is expected back in court on February 17. She heard she would be facing 13 charges, including murder, kidnapping, fraud and assault.
Virna’s ex-brother-in-law, Ricardo Dreyer, 52, says they are relieved the case has reached the steps of the Cape High Court: “We are feeling happy that it has finally moved from Bellville to the Cape High Court.
“She knows the end is near and that police have evidence against her.”
