Thousands of train commuters will have to find alternative transport after Metrorail announced the suspension of its services across the region due to a fire at Cape Town station on Thursday.

In a Tweet posted on Thursday morning, Metrorail said the fire, which affected platforms 9, 10, 15 and 16, will impact morning peak and advised commuters to make use of alternative transport.

While the cause of the fire is still unknown, it's believed that four trains were affected.
📢 Service advisory (Malmesbury) : Fire incident at Cape Town Station (platforms 9/10/15 and 16) impacts morning peak train service. Malmesbury T2630 will operate to Kraaifontein. Commuters are advised to make use of own alternative transport between Kraaifontein and Cape Town
