A popular Cape Flats cycle shop has been hit by a group of brazen skelms whose modus operandi is to use a vehicle to ruk off the security gates before they burgle stores.
The skelms made off with expensive bicycles worth R300 000.
Crown Cycles in Claremont was the latest target after a similar burglary in Grassy Park last week where the crafty skelms stole flat screen TVs worth R40 000.
On Wednesday, the four skelms arrived at Crown Cycles in Imam Haron Road shortly before 4am and smashed the glass windows with a concrete slab to gain access to the store.
Video footage of the robbery has gone viral on social media after owners Gary and Hilton Cloete shared video footage of the incident.
In the footage, the skelms are seen arriving in a BMW X3 and after smashing the glass windows using a concrete block, three men are then seeing ropes around the security gate and attaching it to the vehicle as the driver speeds away and ruks the gate open.
Gary says they got a skrik when they arrived at the store started by his grandfather, William, in 1949, to find nine expensive bikes worth over R30 000 each stolen.
“In the footage you can see as the suspects break in a homeless man sees an opportunity and joins them and steals a mountain bike meant for a client. She was going to buy it for her daughter’s birthday.”
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirms the incident and says the incident happened at around 4am.
“The suspects gained entry to the store by removing the safety gate and fled with a number of high end bicycles valued at an undisclosed amount,” Traut explains.
