A young prison warden has died in a tragic car accident and his body was found in bushes.
Police and emergency services attended to the Baden Powell Drive scene in Mitchells Plain on Sunday night.
Authorities say the warden, aged 26, had completed a shift at Pollsmoor Prison on Sunday night and was on his way to his Kuils River home when tragedy struck.
The young man had been a warden for two years.
His vehicle, a VW Golf, had apparently also been found near the scene.
Cops have since opened an inquest docket into his death.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says: “Mitchells Plain police are investigating a death inquest case after a body of an identified man was found next to Baden Powell, Tafelsig.
“According to information, police attended to the complaint at the address and upon their arrival, they found the body of a man in his 20s in the bushes.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”
Lewis Davids, spokesperson for Pollsmoor Prison, says they are saddened by the warden’s death: “It is with regret to inform you that one of our Pollsmoor officials working at Remand Detention Facility has passed on.
“The member was involved in an accident that apparently happened during the night of 17/18 February 2019 on Baden Powell Road.
“The official came from first watch duty and was on his way to his home in Kuils River.
“The member was on duty from 1pm to 9.15pm.
“We received notification this morning of the accident and the family of the member was notified.”
