A Bishop Lavis man says he has permanently lost his appetite after opening a pakkie noodles for breakfast to find it crawling with cockroaches and maggots.
Moos Erasmus says he gagged on his own vomit after trying to eat the Kellogg’s instant beef noodles for breakfast at work in Ottery on Monday.
The 50-year-old went around to West Cape Furniture to warn his colleagues, as he had bought the noodles at Firdous Takeaways just up the road from them.
The sell-by date on the packet is June 2022.
“At first I saw dark spots, which turned out to be cockroaches crawling out of the cake of noodles, and then I saw the white wriggling maggots and almost threw up,” says Moos.
He and colleague Mustapha Adams went to the winkel where they complained to the owner, Mahedy Hasan, who refunded the R6 Moos had paid for the noodles.
LOST HIS APPETITE: Moos Erasmus, 50, found insects in his Kellogg’s beef noodles
Moos says Hasan did not even say sorry, only telling him to “come again”.
Moos says he got sick last week after he ate noodles bought from the same shop, which he mixed with a packet of soup.
“I was still fighting with the guys here on the floor after cockroaches were running around,” he says.
“I thought someone had maybe brought it from home, but I realise now that it may have been from the pakkie noodles I bought, and I ate that stuff. My stomach was working the whole week after,” a naar Moos says.
REFUND: Shop owner says he will investigate the matter
The upset machine operator says he wants to be compensated.
“If I die today, the forensics are going to find that insects in my system and arrest my wife, saying she poisoned me,” he says.
“I want to know where it comes from. I deserve answers and an apology.”
Speaking to Daily Voice on Monday, Hasan said he was shocked when Moos, “a regular customer”, showed him the infested noodles.
“I am very sorry and immediately refunded my customer. This is not a complaint we have ever had and I am currently looking for the delivery note to establish where the infested box comes from.
“I removed the (noodle) boxes and we are investigating this. We will speak to the client and let him know the outcome,” Hasan said.
