Metrorail has confirmed that the recovery of the three carriages involved in a derailment early on Thursday morning at Bellville Station is complete and the line has re-opened.
Shortly after 6am Cape Town- bound train number 3202 derailed on the Kuils River side of Bellville Station opposite platform 11.
Metrorail spokesperson, Riana Scott says 42 people received medical treatment for minor injuries after two passenger carriages and a motor coach derailed.
However, ER24's Russel Meiring says medics treated 27 people at the scene.
"On closer inspection, medics found that several carriages had derailed. The passengers had already climbed out and were found at the Protection Services offices.
"Medics assessed the patients and found that twenty women and seven men had sustained minor to moderate injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were found on the scene. The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further care."

Scott says the line was re-opened after technical crews completed their safety assessment of the overhead infrastructure and rail tracks.
“The rail network is stable and trains are operating as scheduled; subject to prevailing operational measures i.e speed restrictions and manual authorisation in some sections of the network.
“Metrorail confirmed that the cause of the incident is being investigated to determine corrective and preventive measures," Scott says.
Regional manager Richard Walker thanked commuters for their co-operation and wished those treated a speedy recovery.
“He also extended his gratitude to emergency services, SAPS and Metrorail recovery crews for their collaboration to restore rail services speedily and safely.”
