Brazen robbers robbed a popular jewellery store at a Kuils River mall on Wednesday.
Shortly after Sterns in Zevenwacht Mall opened at 8am, five hammer-wielding men stormed in and started grabbing as much jewellery as they could.
The men, whose getaway vehicle waited near the exit, forced out customers and started breaking the glass displays with hammers, grabbing necklaces, rings and watches.
The gang fled in a light green Toyota Avanza and police say no injuries were reported.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said no arrests have been made yet.
“A business robbery case has been opened for investigation subsequent to a robbery that occurred in a shopping mall in Kuilsriver this morning at 8.30am,” Rwexana said.
“According to reports, five unidentified men entered a jewellery store, broke the display cabinets with hammers and took jewellery worth an undisclosed amount. The suspects fled the scene in a light green Toyota Avanza.
“No shots fired and no injuries reported during this incident. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”
The incident is similar to a robbery on 21 November last year, when five hammer-wielding robbers stormed the Sterns store in Liberty Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain.
The suspects, wearing black balaclavas, broke glass cases and stole diamond and ruby jewellery.
Witnesses say the men fled the scene in an unmarked vehicle, and police said no arrests were made.
