A Parkwood skollie accused of shooting an eight-year-old boy on Monday will spend the weekend behind bars after Grassy Park cops busted him in his home on Thursday.
Police station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says the 32-year-old man who is allegedly a member of the Junky Funky gang tried to escape, but wakker cops caught him in the passage of his home shortly after 5am.
He says on Monday, shortly after 7pm, the eight-year-old laaitie was walking to the shop in Parker’s Walk when members of the Junky Funky and Americans gangs opened fire on each other.
“The boy was walking to the shop and he was struck by a stray bullet and hit in the right shoulder. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital and survived the shooting.”
Laing says shortly after the shooting residents started to piemp the shooters and identified the 32-year-old man as being responsible for the child’s shooting, so determined cops embarked on an early morning tracing operation to find him.

“Shortly after stopping in front of his house in Moosa Walk, they caught the suspect standing in the doorway.
“He tried to run away, but the officers were too fast for him.
“No firearm was recovered, but officers found him in possession of 12 packets of tik and four half Mandrax tablets,” says Laing.
Community leader Pastor Paul Philipps, says the recent spate of gang violence is a concern to the community and says despite the deployment of the army on the Cape Flats, Parkwood was not put on the list.
“What we see now is a strategic shift in gangsters moving from targeted areas by SAPS and the army to low-profile areas.
“I have spoken to some principals of the schools and they are as concerned as the parents are.”

He says the community is happy the child was not killed.
Laing says the man is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday on attempted
murder charges.
