Heartless skelms broke into the Nyanga Library on Saturday.
The diewe gained entry through the roller-shutter door which was partly removed and screws were taken.
Community leader Thulani Phike questioned why the library’s alarm did not go off.
“The City boasts about the best security systems in public facilities yet something like this happens and the alarm did not go off,” he says.
“Why was there no security here because these thugs removed nuts off the roller-shutter door meaning they had time to do their job.
“We will work together as the community to find those behind all this.”

He also called on the community to watch over unused public facilities to keep them from being burgled and damaged during the lockdown.
The City's Zahid Badroodien confirmed the incident: “Nyanga Library was broken into. A fridge, microwave, small sound system and some CDs and DVDs were stolen. The roller-shutter has been destroyed.
“Law Enforcement was on site soon after. A case has been opened. Forensics will be taking fingerprints.”
He said that there were no leads or arrests at this point and they have now appointed two guards for the library.
“They will remain in place until the library is properly secured.
“The City appeals to the community to help identify who these perpetrators are that have damaged such critical community infrastructure during the lockdown.
“We call upon all residents to help look after the facilities in their communities so that when the lockdown ends communities can once again make use of the valuable resources.”
He did not say why the alarm failed to go off during the burglary.
