Customers were no longer loving it when skelms came to rob a Mitchells Plain fast food store on Saturday.
McDonald’s at the Westgate Mall in Westridge was filled with cops and had closed early after five armed men robbed staff at gunpoint.
The suspects stole money and cellphones before fleeing the store and are still at large.
Speaking to the Daily Voice, management at the McDonald’s store says the staff were left traumatised and everyone who was working the late shift were given the day off yesterday.
“We can confirm the robbery which took place after 8pm. Fortunately, nobody got hurt,” they said.
“Everyone will also be receiving trauma counselling.”
A customer, who was at the store, says he paid for his meal, not knowing the mense were being held at gunpoint at the back of the store.
“I went in and I didn’t think anything was wrong until I paid for my order. I stood there and waited. Usually one can see people working in the back, but there was no one.
“It was at this time that staff were being held at gunpoint by these men,” the customer said.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, says suspects are yet to be arrested.
“The circumstances surrounding a robbery at a fast-food outlet at a mall in Mitchells Plain on Saturday at around 8.45pm are being investigated by police,” Traut says.
“Five armed suspects fled with cash and cellular telephones and are yet to be arrested.”
