A court has heard how an alleged mass murderer tried to kill two women before he murdered a teenage girl.
Cameron Wilson, 20, allegedly stabbed two women just hours before he allegedly killed 19-year-old Lekita Moore in September last year.
Both women survived the attacks and took to the stand yesterday in the Western Cape High Court, where Wilson is on trial for 15 charges, including murder, attempted murder, rape and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Lekita’s mutilated body was found on an open field in Tuna Road, near the 8ste Laan informal settlement in Valhalla Park.
The two witnesses both live in 8ste Laan.
Nicole McEwan, thought to be in her twenties, claims she was stabbed by Wilson on September 11, the same day Lekita’s body was found.
Nicole testified that she and a male friend went to buy Mandrax at a merchant’s house in 8ste Laan at about 2am, when Wilson and an accomplice allegedly approached her, looking for a match.
“I did not know Cameron, but saw him around.
“I told him I don’t have [a match], but I kept me sterkgesig because I wasn’t going to allow anyone to hurt me. Then he told me: ‘ Ek sal jou sommer vrek stiek’.”
Nicole says Cameron asked his accomplice for a knife.
“He stabbed me in the back with a long knife with a black handle,” she told the court.
Also on the stand was Rosita Lakay, a woman in her thirties, who says Wilson stabbed her.
Rosita, who was shaking like a leaf on the stand, says she and her friends were chilling around a fire at about 4am, when she saw two men and a woman fighting.
The one man had the woman over his shoulder and was walking in the direction of Tuna Road. She wanted to see if the woman was OK, but was confronted by Wilson and his accomplice, who wanted to rob her.
“I did not know Wilson by name, but by face. His friend gripped me by my neck and Wilson said: ‘ Waar’s die ma se p*** geld?’”
She says Wilson then started stabbing her all over her body, narrowly missing her eyes, which she protected with her hand.
She screamed for help and when a friend responded, her two attackers fled.
Rosita says she was hospitalised for over a week because of her injuries.
The trial resumes on Monday.
