A man was shot dead in Atlantis after skollies
randomly opened fire.
Jayson Festus, 27, was struck in the head while returning home from the local tuck shop, not far from his Protea
Park home, on Tuesday night.
He had just bought cigarettes when unidentified suspects approached him and started shooting.
The father to a toddler was found lying in a pool of his own blood in Hydrangea Street just after 10pm.
Jayson died on the scene due to the extent of his injuries.
Witnesses claim the gunmen opened fire in the street for no reason and mense ran for cover.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Pholelwa Njara confirms a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
“Please be informed that a case of murder has been opened for investigation after a shooting incident occurred in Hydrangea Street, Protea Park, in Atlantis.
“According to reports, police members were conducting crime-
prevention patrols in the area when they heard gunshot being fired.
“Police headed to the abovementioned address and, upon their arrival, they found the body of a 27-year-old male shot and fatally wounded.
"He was declared dead on the scene due to his injuries.
“Arrests in the shooting are yet to be made.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated.
“Police detectives are following up on all possible leads in an effort to find the perpetrators,” Njara said.
