The City of Cape Town is offering a R50 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of former law enforcement officer Nhlangano Mkhize.
Mkhize was shot dead in a suspected hijacking in Khayelitsha on Friday.
Safety and Security Mayco member JP Smith said Mkhize had been a law enforcement officer for eight years and made the rank of inspector two years ago.
“The City of Cape Town has learnt with shock and sadness of the murder of a former law enforcement officer,” said Smith
“Mkhize was shot dead in Khayelitsha on Friday evening. Details around the incident are unclear, but it is yet another senseless killing that has left a family bereft and his colleagues traumatised.
“In 2018, he was successful in his application as a Compliance Officer within the City’s Recreation and Parks Department.
“On behalf of the City, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
“The City is also offering a reward for any information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction of those responsible for this callous act,” Smith said.
