A Grassy Park pastor is accused of misusing R740 000 of his church’s money.
The Acts Mission Church has its own burial society for members and their former pastor Clive Fassen is accused of helping himself to funds for his personal use without telling anyone.
The holy man allegedly took the geld last year and has since left without paying back the money.
ACCUSED: Clive Fassen
One member who wants the pastor exposed says the money must be paid back as they will be left high and dry should any of their relatives suddenly pass away.
“He used our money but is carrying on like it is normal,” says the angry congregant.
“In a meeting with the executive, we were told that it is difficult to prosecute him because there are no rules and regulations for the burial society.”
In addition, the burial society is not a registered financial entity, according to the member.
The woman says neither the executive nor their new pastor Keith van Nelson appear interested in getting their money back: “They are dragging their feet.”
The Daily Voice spoke to Pastor Clive Fassen who said he cannot comment as there is currently an investigation underway.
NO COMMENT: Van Nelson
“The head of the church is investigating the case, I have nothing to say. I cannot give you any comment.”
The Daily Voice tried to get comment from the church’s treasurer to find out where the money disappeared to but he just laughed and said he “will call back”.
Meanwhile, Pastor Keith van Nelson said the church would only comment once the SAPS investigation is concluded.
Police spokesman, Colonel André Traut, confirms a charge of fraud is under investigation with no arrests yet.
