Young lovers in Strandfontein got a lekker skrik over the weekend when crime fighters shone torches into their cars as they parked on the beach to have sex.
As concerns over the amount of bodies found along Baden Powell Drive continues to cause concern, crime fighters say mense are min gespin about making themselves targets for skelms and attacks.
Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Sandy Schuter says they still await the various interventions promised by Mayor Dan Plato to make the coast safer, including street lights.
At least seven bodies have been found this year in the thick bushes on the coastal road between Strandfontein and Khayelitsha, including the decapitated body of a woman near Strandfontein Pavilion in August.
On Friday night, patrollers along with police set out to monitor Baden Powell Drive and Lukannon Drive, which are notorious dumping spots for bodies.
“We just arrived and found a couple pomping in the dark,” says Schuter.
“We became so angry because people are not taking their safety seriously, yet when they end up dead here everyone wants to look at the police.
“We came across at least 13 couples parked off near the dunes and it was pitch dark.”
Schuter says some of the occupants didn’t even notice they were being watched.
“There is no lighting there and while we came with police lights flashing, the mense were so hard besig they didn’t even see us coming.
“Now what if we were gangsters or skelms? They could have been robbed and killed.”
She says they addressed each couple, among them teenagers.
“I gave them all a good skelling about the risk they are taking and respecting themselves.
“Every time we stop at a car, then they tell us they’re ‘just talking’, nou sê ek mos go talk by your mother’s house.
“The worst part is that most of them are from Strandfontein and I am like, ‘don’t you read the Daily Voice with all the bodies found here?’
“The parents must be wys about their teen daughters leaving home with berks who are driving cars.
“In some cars, we even find one couple having sex in the backseat and the other in the front of the car, it’s like a sex party and when the police come, the women are skaam and the men are gloating.”
