Two heroin addicts say they won’t be adhering to the lockdown rules because they need to feed their habit.
Lauren, 29, and 38-year-old Candice (not their real names) from Westridge say they have been addicted to ungah for as long as they can remember and rehabilitation hasn’t helped them at all.
Candice, a mother of one, says she needs the drug every morning and night.
“When I wake up, that’s the first thing I need. I can’t do a normal day without heroin,” she says.
“The Covid-19 virus and lockdown means nothing to me. I don’t care what police say but the 21-day lockdown doesn’t apply to a struggling heroin addict.”
Lauren, who has no kids, says she doesn’t mind prostituting herself to get her fix.
“I won’t lie or deny it, I stand on the road and sell myself for money to get drugs,” she says.
NO LIES: Prostitution used for to get fix.
“If I’m not going to get to leave my house to do my daily ‘street work’, then this is going to be trouble because I’m not going to stay in the house.”
The ladies say they have heavy withdrawal symptoms if they go even a day without their fix.
Lauren says: “We get pains in our lower back and legs, my nose runs and eyes tear and it’s the most horrible feeling ever.”
Candice adds: “A day without heroin gives me stomach aches and hot flushes. I want to stop my addiction but it’s too hard.
“I’ve tried rehabilitation and detoxing but it harms me more because it hurts my body, our bodies aren’t like normal people’s bodies, we need the drugs.”

Candice says her daughter can’t deal with her drug habit and this has damaged their relationship.
“My daughter is 20 years old today and hates my habit and it hurts me that she has to deal with it but I can’t help it,” she says.
