A suspected drug mert from Plumstead was arrested on Tuesday night after cops found him growing 176 dagga plantjies in his home.
Metro Police spokesperson, Sergeant Ruth Solomons, says members of the Gang and Drugs Task Team and the K9 Unit, along with the SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit, executed a search warrant shortly after 7pm where they found the plants and other drugs.

According to a source, the 34-year-old man was surprised when cops entered his home.
“They found a whole lot of plants and various items used to cultivate dagga,” says the source.
“He is not a gang member, but when questioned he told cops that he is just really interested in growing dagga and learnt how to do it by watching YouTube.”
Solomons says during the raid, officers confiscated the plants, dagga in carrier bags and black bags, a jar of dagga, 10 grams of cocaine and a dozen ecstasy tablets.
“Officers found 176 dagga plants which were being grown in two separate rooms and several bottles of Easy Hydro Grow which is used as fertiliser.
“Officers also found fans, aluminium flexible ducting and ultraviolet lights.
“The estimated street value of the drugs, inclusive of the cultivation equipment, is R125 000.”
The man was taken to Diep River SAPS where he was charged for the cultivation of dagga and possession of dangerous dependence producing substances.
