The wife of alleged drug kingpin and Dixie Boys gang boss Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy has been arrested along with a suspected courier in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain.
Aneeka Murphy was nabbed after cops found an arsenal of unlicensed firearms hidden in a secret compartment behind the car’s front seat.
A source has revealed that one of the guns is a police-issue Z88 that was never reported stolen.
The 25-year-old woman and the 54-year-old man are due to appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ Court today
Police spokesperson Sergeant, Noloyiso Rwexana, says cops were patrolling the Lentegeur area on Friday just after 11pm when they noticed two suspicious and nervous-looking people inside a white Hyundai Elantra and pulled them over.
The female passenger jumped out of the car and ran off.
Cops searched the car and noticed that the back panel of the front seats had been tampered with. They opened the compartment and found six guns and ammunition.
“Upon searching the vehicle, members noticed that the back panels of the front seats were tampered with, and upon searching found six firearms of different calibres, several firearm magazines filled with ammunition and three bags of loose ammunition, hidden in the back of the seats,” says Rwexana.
“The serial numbers of four of the firearms were filed off.
“The driver was arrested and the female suspect was later arrested at her residence.”
The suspects will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court for the illegal possession of guns and ammunition.
Incidentally, this is the second wife of Murphy’s who has been arrested.
He is currently on trial with his ex-wife, Shafieka Murphy, and his co-accused, Dominique Davidson and Leon Paulsen, facing 229 charges relating to racketeering, money laundering and other charges relating to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca).
In December 2019, Murphy’s sister, Glenda Bird, who had been on trial with them, died of cancer.

Also in December, Bird’s lawyer, Advocate Vernon Jantjies was shot and killed outside his linen shop in Lentegeur.
During the trial, a cop testified that when they searched Glenda’s house and found a police roster on her fridge.
