A taxi driver is facing charges of resisting arrest and the attempted robbery of a Law Enforcement officer’s firearm following a street fight on Tuesday.
Law Enforcement officers were carrying out patrols along Lake Road in Lotus River when they saw the taxi coming to a sudden stop in the middle of the road.
Inspector Wayne Dyason, the spokesperson for the City’s Law Enforcement, says the officers approached the man to discuss his reckless driving and issued him a R2000 fine.
Dyason says the driver refused to give his name and address or to hand over his licence to the officers.
He says a struggle ensued and the driver allegedly made a grab for a female officer’s gun.
Several of the woman’s colleagues responded to her distress call, resulting in the street being filled with Law Enforcement vehicles and officers.
Dyason says the driver was detained at the scene and will face charges of resisting arrest and the attempted robbery of the officer’s firearm.
