A Mitchells Plain woman wept with relief after being reunited with her beloved dog a week after it went missing.
Tarryn Poggenpoel, 32, from Eastridge, says her two-year-old pit bull, London, was lured to the gate by a passerby to fight with another dog, but got stuck between the bars.
The scared dog eventually wiggled herself loose, but then ran off in distress.
Tarryn says she got a call from a relative on Wednesday around 11.30pm to say they had the dog.
It turns out London ran back to Tarryn’s previous home in Portlands.
“I moved to Eastridge from Portlands about a month ago, but my sister still lives there,” explains Tarryn.
“My sister called to say London rocked up there looking bruised and had bite marks.
“I immediately went there and brought her home in a cab.
“The driver was accommodating because he says he also has two dogs he is passionate about.”
Tarryn with London
Tarryn says she was overcome with emotion and cried to find London alive.
“She was so scared and thin, I told her 'mama is here, we’re going home',” the emotional woman says.
She says when they got home, an excited Cassie, London’s mother, jumped on London out of joy.
“I checked her body for any scars and injuries and she had a lot.
“She whimpered all night and barked in her sleep, she is so scared but is a real fighter.”
London was treated at the SPCA and is now home recovering.
