Police have arrested two alleged female drug traffickers, one of whom was also wanted by cops.
Woodstock cops made the breakthrough on Monday, just after 6pm when they visited an area known for drug trafficking called The Stalle in Bromwell Street, Woodstock.
Officers found 68 mandrax tablets and 19 packets of tik hidden inside a mattress.
The drugs have an estimated street value of R5000 and cops also confiscated an undisclosed amount of money.
Woodstock Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hilton Malila says they also learnt that the 34-year-old woman was wanted for a drug-related case dating back to 2012 in Maitland.
He says the arrests came after cops reacted to a tip-off.
“This was after receiving information from the public pertaining to illegal drug peddling,” he says.
“Officers surprised the occupants and during a search of the structure they confiscated 68 mandrax tablets and 19 plastic packets filled with tik with an estimated street value of R5000.
“This was hidden under a mattress inside the place and police also confiscated a substantial amount of cash.
“Both women, aged 33 and 34, were arrested on dealing and being in possession of drugs charges and are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on 14 August.
“A preliminary investigation also revealed the 34-year-old woman was also circulated as a wanted person for a similar case in Maitland during 2012.”
Malila thanked residents for working with police.
