Controversial businessman Nafiz Modack’s wife appeared in the Germiston Magistrates’ Court in Johannesburg on fraud and corruption charges on Monday.
Riana Modack and Nicole Norman, the niece of Colin Booysen, were arrested when cops swooped on the Modacks’ Plattekloof home last Thursday.
Their lawyer, advocate Bruce Hendricks, managed to get Norman out on the same day. And he had Modack released on R10 000 bail on Saturday.
This after the Western Cape High Court granted an urgent bail application for the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court.
“I confirm they are out on bail of R10 000. There was no need for arrests as that is not the only way to bring someone before the court,” Hendricks said.
It is not clear at this stage what the fraud and corruption charges relate to.
Mrs. Modack is set to appear in the Germiston court again on 5 December.
One of the respondents in the matter against Modack is Colonel Charl Kinnear.
Kinnear and Anti-Gang Unit Captain Sharon Japhta are being accused of the theft of a Rolex watch worth R300 000 and R18 000 in cash from the Modacks’ bedroom during last week’s raid.
Modack is adamant cops have a vendetta against him and are now gunning for his wife.
“He (Kinnear) is targeting me because I do not want to withdraw the charges against them. So now they are fabricating charges so I can withdraw the theft and other cases against him,” he said.
Kinnear is also the investigating officer in the case involving Modack, Booysen, Ashley Fields and Jacques Cronjé.
