Cops are hunting for three dom skelms who robbed a cellphone store at Canal Walk, but ended up making off with
display phones which were dummies.
The three held staff of Cellucity at the popular mall at gunpoint just before 9pm on Wednesday.
Police say the robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cellphones and no shots were fired or any injuries reported.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says cops are now hunting for the diewe who fled on foot.
“A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation after an incident occurred [on Wednesday] night at a cellphone store at a shopping mall in Milnerton at 8.41pm.
“It has been reported that three unknown men entered the store and threatened the store personnel with firearms and took an undisclosed number of cellphones.
“All three suspects fled the scene on foot. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported during this incident. The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated with no arrests made so far.
“Police detectives are working around the clock in an effort to find perpetrators.”
Gavin Wood, Canal Walk CEO, confirms the incident and that some of the cellphones are dummies.
“We are aware of a robbery that took place [on Wednesday] night at one of our cellular stores,” he says.
“Three suspects entered the store and grabbed mobile phones from the display stand, which included dummy phones, before fleeing the scene.
“No injuries were sustained. All information and footage have been handed over to the SAPS.
“We will continue to engage with our tenants and all Law Enforcement agencies to ensure that all security measures are adequate as the safety of our customers and tenants remain a high priority.”
