Alleged Mitchells Plain drug kingpin Fadwaan “Vet” Murphy has lost a civil case against police at the Cape High Court on Friday after he tried to get them to pay back his money.
Cops confiscated R180 000 cash that was found in a tog bag during a search of Murphy’s car at a garage in Lentegeur two weeks ago.
Cops took the kroon and told Murphy he has to come and explain how he came by the cash.
Murphy then instituted a civil action claim against the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, claiming the money was “unrestrained” cash.
But Murphy’s civil action was dismissed with costs because he failed to declare the money to the Assets Forfeiture Unit.
Last year March, the AFU placed a restraining order on Murphy’s assets including cash, amounting to R53 million.

He was instructed to declare all his earnings, assets and expenditure on a monthly basis.
According to the order, if Murphy is found with an undisclosed amount of money which he does not declare to the Curator, it will be seized until the value of R53 million is reached.
Once the R53 million is reached and seized, the asset will become “unrestrained”.
It is for this reasons that Murphy’s civil action attempt was dismissed.
Two weeks ago, police from Lentegeur were carrying out patrols at the BP garage in the area when they spotted Murphy and his driver in a white Kia.
They asked Murphy whether they could search the vehicle and found the tog bag in the boot, loaded with cash.
Murphy and six co-accused are currently on trial at the Cape High Court and are facing 229 charges including racketeering, drug dealing and money laundering.
A week ago, one of his alleged runners, Rushdien Abrahams and a woman were arrested at a house in Westridge with R300 000 worth of drugs and R180 000 in cash.
