The man accused of robbing and killing a Bonteheuwel mother will remain behind bars until his next court appearance next year.
Fernando Isaacs allegedly robbed Lauren Dryden, 31, of her cellphone before killing her on 20 November.
The mom of two was outside her workplace in Epping, waiting for an e-hailing taxi to take her home when she was attacked.
Cops arrested him within hours of the murder.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed Isaacs was arrested and charged for the murder.
He made his first appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court last Monday but because the crime was committed in Epping, his case was transferred to Goodwood.
Bonteheuwel residents have attended all of the court proceedings, determined that Isaacs be denied bail.
And yesterday they claimed victory when Isaacs abandoned his bail application in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court.
The matter was remanded till 4 February for further investigation.
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie says the community won the first round.
“Bonteheuwel 1 Gangsters 0. Bonteheuwel has won yet another small battle in our fight for justice for Lauren, against a broken criminal justice system, bad policing and for all other victims of unpunished crime,” he adds.
“This is a small relief for the community that has been terrorised by his actions but an important strike for ridding our community of these gangster terrorists.”
Isaacs’ case is expected to be heard in the Parow Regional Court.
