An ambulance crew was left traumatized after they were ambushed by gunmen in Delft early on Thursday morning.
Just before 6am, the EMS paramedics who were in Roosendal where approached by two armed men who stopped them in Nastergal Crescent.
They were then held at gunpoint by the one suspect while the other surreptitiously stole the ambulance’s ePCR machine through the window.
The Electronic Patient Care Reporting (ePCR) machine allows paramedics to collect patient information and store the details electronically, which can be called up on the road on the mobile device.
They only realised the important machine was missing after they had driven off and parked at the nearby Delft Day Hospital.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel André Traut, confirmed the incident.
“Two paramedics were robbed at gunpoint in Nastergal Crescent, Roosendaal in Delft.
“On Thursday, at 5.45am two paramedics were approached by two unknown male suspects. One of the suspects had a firearm and held them at gunpoint.
“While the paramedics were looking at the one with the firearm the other suspect opened the sliding door and stole an ePCR machine.
“The paramedics only noticed the theft when they arrived at Delft Day Hospital. No shots were fired and no injuries sustained,” Traut said.
“No arrests have been made as yet and SAPS Delft is investigating a case of robbery with a firearm.”
