A 65-year-old-old man has been arrested for the rape of an eight-year-old girl after his own relative apparently caught him on top of the child.
In a sad twist, the child’s 25-year-old mother reveals this is the second time she had been raped.
On Wednesday, Osman Sadan of Woodlands appeared at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court for a bail application.
The matter was postponed to 19 March due to load shedding.
Outside court, the child’s mother said kids in the neighbourhood often played at the man’s house and fondly calls him “Dadda”.
She says her daughter had been at the house about five weeks ago when a male relative caught the suspect and pulled him off the girl, telling her to run away.
ANGRY: Victim’s mother
“My daughter told her friend’s mother who told me and when I questioned her, she came out with what had happened,” the mother says.
“She said Dadda touched me and he made me very sore.
“I became so emotional and when I called him to ask if he touched her, he said he cannot remember because he was probably drunk.
“A male relative of his is one of the witnesses.
“He was the one who caught the old man and said “ watte * *** vang jy aan” and he said my child must run.”
She says men mistake her daughter for a teen and take advantage of her.
“I am so heartbroken because my child is eight but she is very mature for her age. This has happened before when she was six and that case was provisionally withdrawn because she was too young to testify and now another man did this to her,” adds the mother.
