Alleged murderer Levonna Jacobs will have to get a new legal representative to see her to the end of her trial after her lawyer recused himself of the matter in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.
Advocate Johannes Solomons told the court he will not be representing Jacobs anymore.
“I am withdrawing myself from the case as I am unable to get further instructions from my client,” Solomons submitted.
Jacobs, 38, disappeared on 4 November during her trial and it is believed she is on the run.
The State is set to prove Jacobs suffocated her aunt, Virna Jacobs, 47, and cousin Rowena Jacobs, 26, to death and that she buried them in their backyard before their bodies were dug up in December 2015.
They also allege her motive was to gain ownership of the house in Sering Street, Delft South which belonged to her uncle, Donovan Jacobs, who died in March 2015 after he was attacked during a fight.
Jacobs, who was out on bail of R10 000, failed to appear at what was to be closing arguments in a lengthy case and Judge Mushtak Parker was to deliver his verdict.
But Solomons informed the court he was unable to reach his client.
A warrant for her arrest has since been issued and her bail was forfeited.
“The bail for the accused in the matter will be forfeited to the State,” Judge Parker said.
A new date for the matter will only be given once Jacobs has been rearrested and placed into custody.
