Fatima Kenevasi, 43, was shot in her shoulder while visiting her neighbour shortly after 6pm.
The mother of six says: “I was standing on the stairs by my neighbours. There were four of us and we heard three skote and then I felt a burning and saw I was shot. There was no blood and I just went down.”
Fatima’s daughter Tasneem says she struggled to get through to cops to report the matter while her father rushed her mother to Heideveld clinic.
“I could not get through, they made me wait on the line the whole time but then my father took my mother to the hospital,” says Tasneem.
Fatima, who works at a cosmetics shop, says the doctors told her she was lucky that the bullet did not penetrate her heart of any vital organs.
She was released that evening.
When the Daily Voice visited her on Monday along with community activist, Roegshanda Pascoe, the mother broke into tears as she told her story.
Her shoulder and arm are covered in bandages and she is experiencing difficulty walking, sitting and sleeping, she says.
“The pain is really bad and I am worried about my arm. I pack cosmetics and use my arms the whole day. Now what? I am working for six children, this is not right. I can’t sleep because I get nightmares of the shooting.”
Captain FC van Wyk says police are not aware of incident.
According to residents, the Dixie Boys, Clever Kidz, Americans and the Jesters have teamed up to take on the Hard Livings gang.
