Police are looking for skelms who robbed the Pep store at Pelican Park Shopping Centre yesterday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, five men entered the shop, located on Strandfontein Road, at about 12.30pm and they were seen running away just before 1pm.
A male employee at a nearby shop said: “The guys just walked into the store and then the next thing we heard was people shouting.
“By the time people went to look, the guys were running out the shop again with stuff in bags and packets.
“I heard from the trolley guys that the guys had guns but I did not hear any shots or anything like that.”
When the Daily Voice visited the scene of the robbery, a police van stood in front of the store which was closed as cops investigated the scene.
A trolley guard said the security guard was badly beaten by the robbers and that two of the men had guns on them.
He added that the men drove away in a car but he was unable to say what make or colour the car was because he went to hide when the diewe exited the store.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed: “A case of business robbery has been opened for investigation by Grassy Park Police after a business robbery was perpetrated by five suspects, two armed with firearms in Pelican Park.
“According to information, the suspects threatened the employees and assaulted the security guard, they fled the scene with cellular phones and an undisclosed amount of money.”
