A security guard has won praise for his bravery after he caught one of the men who robbed an elderly pharmacist at knife-point.
Fabian Heynes of Zone Security was on duty near the Wynberg Pharmacy in Benjamin Street on Thursday morning when the 70-year-old woman ran over to him and said she had just been robbed of her cellphone and hard drive by three men.
His boss, Kevin Lenner, says Fabian immediately jumped into action when he saw two of the men walking by.
“A staffer came running from the parking lot informing Fabian she had been held at knife-point by three suspects,” he says.
“They saw two of the suspects and he managed to apprehend one of the suspects.
“In the scuffle, Fabian got hurt but called for back-up and SAPS to respond.
“He was taken to a nearby
medical facility.”
MOERED: One of the three robbers
A modest Fabian, who was in extreme pain as he hurt his knee during the scuffle, said: “I am no hero. I was just doing my job and would do it again if I was ever in such a scenario again.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulelo Malo, confirmed the robbery and said a suspect was arrested.
“According to reports, police members attended the scene at the mentioned address and it has been reported that a victim, a 70-year-old female who is an employee at the pharmacy, was approached by three male suspects while she was sitting in her vehicle and they threatened her with a sharp object and demanded her belongings, including her cellphone and they fled the scene on foot.
“One suspect was apprehended while the two suspects are still at large.”
