The 33-year-old mom from Kuils River went missing in March and her body was discovered after workers at the Bien Donne Farm in Klein Drakenstein complained about a foul smell on the property.
Police found her decomposing body in a black bag. She had been missing for 10 days.
Her friend, Renaldo van Rooyen, 34, from Kuils River and Tawfeeq Ebrahim, 26 from Blue Downs, have been accused of killing Zarah allegedly over drug money she owed them.
The accused also face charges of defeating the ends of justice and theft of a vehicle.
Renaldo’s mother testified that Zarah had visited their home for more than a year, but that she only met Tawfeeq two days before Zarah was reported missing last year.
The court also heard from Zarah’s friend, Nadia Smith, who is a neighbour of Van Rooyen’s.
She says on the Monday, Zarah arrived in a silver BMW Z3 and tried to borrow R150 “to play the slots”. The car belonged to Zarah’s now deceased boyfriend Mark Kleinsmith.
On Tuesday, Zarah’s family said even though the matter has been delayed a number of times, they feel progress is being made and that there will be justice for her.
“We have a good team working very hard to get this done and we are confident they will be able to,” said older sister to Zarah, Vivi-Anne Pretorius.
