Hanover Park residents are up in arms after police allegedly refused to arrest a convicted rapist who has been threatening teens in Tiberias Court.
The scared parents say they got a skrik when children revealed the man, in his 50s and is known as Varkies, allegedly told the kids he wanted to “* ***” them.
An ouma, 69, says her mentally disabled grandson was also approached by the man.
“He is 16 years old and he is mentally disabled,” the granny says.
“He was coming from school on Friday and I was on the stoep.
“He was acting funny so one of the neighbours came to me and she asked him about Varkies. Then he told me, ouma, he says he is going to * *** me.”
She reached out for help and heard of a similar incident involving a 13-year-old girl.
The scared meisie tells the Daily Voice: “He is my cousin’s boyfriend and we were in the house when he came and said he wanted to * *** me.
“I told him no and then he tried to get me in the bathroom.
“Me and my mommy didn’t know what to do so we walked around late that night because we were scared of being in the house but then they moved out.”
Residents say the man was heard telling young girls that he “only licks virgin pussies”.
Angry women begged Philippi police on Friday to take action, and Varkies was arrested.
“We wanted the children to give statements but they said because he did not touch them yet, they cannot charge him,” says the boy’s ouma.
“So they want us to wait for a child to be raped before they do something?”
However, police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk says there is no record of community members being sent away from the cop shop.
He urged the residents to lodge a complaint with police management or the police watchdog, Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
