An off-duty cop was shot and wounded in Table View during the early hours of Sunday morning after an alleged argument over a woman.
According to a source, the 37-year-old constable was shot several times in the chest while parked in Porterfield Road at 4am.
“This constable works at the Cape Town Magistrate's Court and he was at a club with a friend who works for the army,” says the source.
“Apparently the cop was accused of jolling with the shooter’s girlfriend at Pool Lounge. The guy told him he saw them and argued with the officer and then took out a firearm and walked up to the cop who was sitting in his white VW Polo and just started shooting at the cop at close range.
“He also hit the friend, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat, in the bum.”
Both men were rushed to Milnerton Medi-Clinic and the cop’s car was taken to Table View Police Station where blood stains could be seen on the seats.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, confirms the case an says: “Attempted murder cases are under investigation by Table View police following a shooting incident that occurred at 4am on Porterfield road, Table View.
“According to information, an off-duty police constable, 37-year-old and his friend were shot and wounded. A 35-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court for attempted murder”.
