Confusion surrounds the release of a Hanover Park skollie just days after he was nabbed for shooting at cops.
Residents say despite being caught in the act and his gun confiscated by cops, the man known as ‘Yaati’ of the Ghetto Kidz gang was released and is walking around freely.
Metro Police spokesperson, Sergeant Ruth Solomons, says shortly before 6am on Saturday officers of the Gang and Drug Task Team (GDTT) responded to a Shotspotter alert in Lansur Street.
“On arrival, officers came under fire from two suspects. They retaliated, wounding one of the suspects. The second man ran away.
“Officers apprehended a 29-year-old male and recovered a CZ 75 9mm pistol with serial number filed off and four live rounds of ammunition.”
He was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital by SAPS, where he was treated for a flesh wound above his right eye.

On Tuesday residents reported seeing him in Hanover Park.
Cop sources say it appears the man was either never charged or the investigating officer failed to oppose bail.
“If he was charged and did appear he would have not just been released because he faces attempted murder charges for everyone in that van.
“He should have been sent to Pollsmoor for seven days. The only other way is if the detective did not oppose his bail.”
Police did not respond to any questions on this case.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the matter has been escalated to senior police management and the Safety and Security Investigations Unit (SSIU) is also looking into the matter.
