After 12 years, a popular Gatesville restaurant may move to Claremont after their chef was stabbed and their restaurant burgled in just three days.
The manager of Cape To India restaurant, Amirul Islam Khan, says staff are fearing for their lives after an 18-year-old chef was attacked while walking to mosque on Sunday and Wednesday, four skelms threw a brick through their front window.
“On Sunday after his shift the chef walked to the mosque when he was robbed by two men.
“They took his two cellphones and cash. He is only 18 and they stabbed him in his arm and hand. We took him to the doctor but a case wasn’t opened,” Khan explains.

On Wednesday at 4.30am, he received a call from their security company to say a brick had been thrown through the window.
“There were two males and two females and they (guards) got the two females, but not the other two. They had big knives.
“We came here and saw the glass was broken and had it repaired.
“The security told us they are waiting for Athlone police to fetch the two females. They didn’t get anything because the security got here in time,” he says.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated with no arrests made so far.”
Khan says crime in Gatesville is getting out of hand.
“We don’t feel safe here anymore, we were robbed twice last year. The owner said he wants to move, but the landlord says we will be OK.”
